Are Mandatory HPV Vaccination Policies Cost Effective?

By promoting vaccination as a public health imperative mandated by government, rather than as a private choice, Merck has opened the door to the inherently uncomfortable discussion of whether mandatory vaccination is cost effective. Since Merck claims Gardasil protects against the two strains of HPV that cause 70 percent of cancers, women will still need but may be less likely to get Pap smear tests to catch the signs of cervical cancers caused by the other 30 percent of dangerous strains.

Scottish Government Urged To Review HPV-Vaccine Program

THE Scottish Government has been urged to review its cervical cancer vaccination programme and follow the lead of Germany, which ordered experts to show hard evidence the jab is effective and safe in the long-term. The International Coalition of Advocates for the People (ICAP) – a group raising concerns of the safety and efficacy of Cervarix and its rival, Gardasil, to health ministers and researchers worldwide – want a thorough investigation into the vaccine.

LEADING scientists and doctors have raised fresh concerns about the safety of a cervical cancer vaccine. They have accused the manufacturers of Cervarix and another jab, Gardasil, of making misleading claims.
