The latest issue of JAMA delivered a mixed blessing to Merck’s Gardasil. In a headliner study published by the Journal of the American Medical Association, the side effects of the human papillomavirus shot were deemed reasonable. Serious adverse events cropped in up those who got the vaccine–including some 32 deaths and two cases of Lou Gehrig’s disease–but there’s no evidence the shot actually caused them. The most common complications were fainting and clot risk.

Overall, there were 54 adverse event reports for every 100,000 doses, and some 6 percent of those were serious. “We feel confident recommending people get the vaccine; the benefits still outweigh the risks,” Dr. Barbara A. Slade, lead author and a medical officer with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told the New York Times. The company sent out a release touting the news: “We are pleased that the study published by JAMA today further reinforces the safety profile of Gardasil,” Merck’s Richard Haupt said in a statement.

That’s the good stuff. The not-so-good: JAMA asks in an editorial whether any level of risk is appropriate in the case of HPV vaccination. “I wouldn’t accept much risk of side effects at all in an 11-year-old girl, because if she gets screened when she’s older, she’ll never get cervical cancer,” the editorial’s author, Dr. Charlotte Haug, told the Times.

And another JAMA study dropped a bombshell: Merck gave money to three medical societies to fund their promotion of Gardasil.

Researchers from Columbia University said the American College Health Association, the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology and the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists used Merck funding on educational materials and lectures that offered lopsided information about the vaccine’s risks and benefits. “I think what happened here was that marketing and medical education got blurred,” co-author Sheila Rothman told the Washington Post.

“This shows how [Merck was] able to influence physicians,” Diane Harper of the University of Missouri, who helped test the vaccine, told the paper.

Merck, however, says that the $750,000 it gave to those three groups was intended to help them develop “independent” information for their membership. “[O]ur activities with these societies were done in an appropriate and independent manner,” Haupt said. The groups themselves say the funding didn’t affect the content of their materials or programs.

HPV is human papillomavirus. It is the most common viral sexually transmitted infection for both men and women. Some types of HPV are called “low risk”.

Those can infect the skin around the genitals and cause genital warts. Other types of HPV are called “high risk”. When those types infect internal genital areas they sometimes cause precancerous or cancerous changes on the cervix (opening to the uterus) or vagina. “High risk” HPV can also cause precancerous changes on the external genital areas (vulva).

How common is HPV?

HPV is very common. Most men and women who have had sex get HPV. Fortunately, many HPV infections go away on their own without causing any problems for theinfected person. Most infected people don’t even know they have had HPV.

Is HPV infection serious?

There are lots of different kinds of HPV, and most are not serious. Infection with a “low risk” virus can cause genital warts but will not produce major problems. However, sometimes “high risk” HPV infection can cause skin cells to grow abnormally. The growth may be precancerous and could eventually become a potentially serious problem, such as cancer of the cervix, vagina, vulva, or anus.

How did I get HPV?

You probably got HPV through skin-to-skin contact with an infected person during vaginal, oral, or anal sex. It is possible for a person to have HPV in skin cells and pass it on to another person even when no genital warts are present. Most people who have HPV do not have any signs of it and do not know they have it.

What about HPV and oral sex?

If a person performs oral sex on a partner with genital HPV, there is a small chance that his or her mouth can become infected. Wart-like lesions and precancers can develop in the mouth or throat. Untreated precancerous lesions in the mouth or throat can turn into cancer after a long time. If a person receives oral sex from a partner with HPV in his or her mouth, that person can possibly develop a genital HPV infection. Currently there is no screening test for oral HPV. Your healthcare provider or dentist can carefully examine your mouth to look for lesions, but it is unknown how helpful that will be in preventing HPV-related mouth or throat cancers.

What increases my chances of developing a genital HPV infection?

The more sexual partners you have, the greater your chances are of getting an HPV infection. Using condoms may reduce your chances of getting infected, but condoms do not always help because HPV can be present in areas not covered by the condom. Your immune system also determines whether you may develop a HPV infection when you are exposed. A healthy immune system keeps you from being sick. People with poorly functioning immune systems are more likely to get a HPV infection. Smoking tobacco weakens your immune system and increases your risk for getting HPV when exposed to the virus.

How long have I had HPV?

It is impossible to know exactly how long you have had HPV. If you have had more than one sexual partner in your lifetime, it is impossible to tell which partner gave you HPV. If you had sexual contact with an infected person, it usually takes a few weeks or months for genital warts to appear or for a Pap test to become abnormal. You may have had HPV for some time before it was discovered by a physical exam, abnormal Pap test, or HPV laboratory test.

How is HPV diagnosed?

HPV can be diagnosed in several ways.

• Sometimes the skin changes on external areas can be seen on physical exam.
• Many infected women first learn they have HPV when they have an abnormal Pap test.
• At times, a specific test for the HPV virus recognizes it in infected cells on the cervix. (This test is not useful on other parts of the body or in men.
• When HPV infection of the cervix or vagina or anus is suspected, your health care provider can use a colposcope to shine a light on and magnify the cervix and vaginal walls and/or the anus. Often a tiny piece of tissue (a biopsy) is taken and examined in a laboratory to check for changes produced by HPV

How is HPV treated?

Like all other virus infections, HPV infection cannot be cured with medication. Luckily, your body’s immune system can and usually does get rid of the infection and the skin changes it causes.

However, the abnormal skin growths (genital warts or precancerous changes) caused by HPV can be treated with medication or minor surgery. The type of treatment depends on the location, number, and kind of skin changes. If the virus has caused only slight abnormalities, then no treatment may be necessary at this time. Careful monitoring for future changes with self-examination, regular Pap tests, or possible colposcopy may be necessary. If more severe skin abnormalities are found, they often need to be treated.

There are many ways that your health care provider can treat abnormal areas. Some treatment can be done at home, and other types of treatment must be done in the clinic. Your health care provider will discuss these treatment options with you.

Will I still have HPV after treatment?

There is no cure for HPV. The goal of treatment is to remove the abnormal area that contains the virus without causing damage to the normal, healthy tissue surrounding the abnormal area. It is likely that a small amount of virus will remain after treatment. Often your body’s immune system can take care of the remaining virus.

How can I prevent spreading HPV to others?

You can reduce the chance that you will share your HPV infection with other people by having any abnormal skin or genital warts treated until they are gone. Using condoms during sexual intercourse and dental dams during oral sex may also help to reduce the spread of infection. However, condoms or dams may not always completely prevent the spread of HPV infection, because HPV may be in skin that is not protected by the condom or dam. Now that you know you have HPV, you should tell your current (and past) sexual partner(s), so that they can be examined and treated, if appropriate.

Will having HPV cause problems if I become pregnant?

Problems caused by HPV in pregnancy are unlikely. There is a very small chance that your baby could catch HPV from you. The baby could inhale HPV-infected cells from your birth canal during birth. Although it rarely happens, the baby’s vocal cords can become infected with the virus. This could cause breathing problems and would require treatment. Usually, women with HPV have regular vaginal deliveries. Only women who have very large genital warts that block the birth canal need a Cesarean section because of the HPV infection.

What should I do to take care of myself?

• You may want to check yourself for the development of new warts following treatment.
• If you discover new genital warts, have them treated as soon as possible.
• Having genital warts may mean that you are at a slightly greater risk for getting
• cervical cancer.
• Women should have regular Pap tests.
• If you smoke tobacco, stop!
• Try to keep your stress level low, get enough sleep, and eat a nutritionally
• balanced diet.
• If you are a woman between the ages of 9 and 26, ask your healthcare provider whether you should get the HPV vaccine. Even if you have already been infected with one type of HPV, the vaccine will prevent infection with other types.

How can I cope with HPV?

Be sure to get regular check-ups, including Pap tests. If you see genital skin changes, make an appointment with your health care provider for an exam. These feelings are normal. It is common for people with HPV to feel angry, upset, depressed or ashamed about their condition. Some women may also be concerned about the risk for cancer. Keep in mind that HPV can be managed and cervical cancer can almost always be prevented. Talk to your health care provider about your concerns. Keeping yourself healthy and not smoking can help boost you body’s natural defense system to fight the virus.

Malia Obama celebrated her 11th birthday over the Fourth of July weekend. The  festivities included a Camp David birthday party with about 20 of her friends and as part of America’s first family, hosting 1,200 military families for a Fourth of July barbecue on the White House South Lawn.

As I looked at the happy images of Malia, Sasha and their mom, the formidable Michelle Obama, I still wonder WWMOD, What Will Michelle Obama DO? I first ask the question a few months ago as additional states seemed poised to mandate the HPV vaccine Gardasil for all school girls, some legislation targeting girls as young as the age of ten.  In 2007, Virginia, the District of Columbia’s very close southern neighbor passed House Bill 2035 requiring that 12 year-olds girls be vaccinated for the sexually transmitted disease Human papillomavirus (HPV). So as Malia, and soon Sasha enter the targeted demographic, I again ask the question,  WWMOD —What Will Michelle Obama Do?

No matter where you stand within the American, political color-spectrum, Reds and Blues all agree: Michelle Obama is a fiercely protective Momma. To my mind that is a very good thing. However as the Adverse Reactions to the HPV vaccine Garasil continue to mount, I find myself asking WWMOD? What Will Michelle Obama DO?

Like many moms out there she wants what is best for her girls. At 7 and 11years old, Sasha and Malia are in Merck’s TARGETED demographic. Thanks to some well-spent lobby-bucks several States mandated Gardasil vaccinations. The parents of those public school girls might not have the choices available to Mrs. Obama.

Several months ago, President Obama stated that his youngest liked PB&J sandwiches and she has a right to expect a safe sandwich. Sasha, Malia and every other American girl have a right to expect safe vaccines. MERCK is experimenting with the reproductive systems of an entire generation of young woman… so what, if anything with President Obama do to insure the safety of his as well as all the other girls of this nation?

NVIC Petitions White House and Congress to Investigate Gardasil

On February 9, the NVIC launched a petition and issued a national press release calling on President Barack Obama, his Administration and Congress, to investigate the fast track licensure and universal use recommendation of Gardasil in 2006, and the dismissal of more than 10,000 reports of Gardasil-related reactions, injuries and deaths to the Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System as a “coincidence” by federal health officials.

NVIC’s latest Gardasil risk report, which compares the number and severity of adverse events reported to VAERS through November 30, 2008, reveals that death and serious health problems such as stroke, blood clots, cardiac arrest, seizures, fainting, lupus and rechallenge cases are reported three to 30 times more frequently after Gardasil vaccination than after meningococcal (Menactra) vaccination.
Barbara Loe Fisher explains the significance of this fact:

“If the deaths and serious injuries reported after Gardasil were only a “coincidence,” there would be little or no difference between the frequency and severity of vaccine-related adverse events between two vaccines, if the vaccines were equally reactive, and the number of doses were roughly the same.

Gardasil and Menactra vaccines were licensed within a year of each other and recommended by the CDC for universal use in 11-12 year olds.

Although Menactra is given to boys and girls and has already been mandated in many states for high school and college entry, Gardasil is only given to girls and is not yet mandated.

Menatra is given as a one-dose series and, by February 25, 2008, the CDC reported that about 15.5 million doses of Menactra had been distributed in the U.S.. Gardasil is given in a three dose series and the CDC reported that, by July 2008, about 16 million doses had been distributed in the U.S.

This means that about 15 million doses of Menactra were given to about 15 million boys and/or girls and about 16 million doses of Gardasil – if every girl got three doses – were given to about five million girls.

It is individuals – not doses of vaccine – who collapse, convulse, become paralyzed, have heart attacks, develop lupus and other chronic health problems after being vaccinated. The fact that death and serious health problems are reported 3 to 30 times more frequently after Gardasil than after Menactra is highly significant and it is irresponsible for federal health officials and Merck to blow it off as unimportant.”

What Does Merck Have to Say About it?

It’s incomprehensible that the CDC, FDA, and Merck — the makers of Gardasil – cannot see the facts presented in this VAERS analysis, and choose instead to cling to worn-out propaganda slogans and pre-written advertising messages that fly in the face of reason.

In the hours before a resent CBS News broadcast, Merck addressed the differences between adverse events associated with Gardasil and Menactra as follows:

“It’s important to remember that the proven benefit of GARDASIL is that it helps prevent cervical cancer caused by the two virus types responsible for most cases of cervical cancer.

Nothing is more important to Merck than the safety of our products and we carefully monitor the safety of GARDASIL on a routine basis. Experts at the FDA and CDC also continue to review data and, as recently as four months ago, said “GARDASIL continues to be safe and effective, and its benefits continue to outweigh its risks.”

NVIC is not a medical organization and has a long history of raising concerns about vaccines that are in direct conflict with the opinion of leading medical experts. We encourage consumers to get reliable information about the safety of vaccines from www.cdc.gov.”

Spain Already Removed the Vaccine

Spain has, recently withdrawn 75, 000 doses of the HPV vaccine from their market, after two teenagers who received the shots were hospitalized.

Seems  they weren’t as influenced by the drug company’s rhetoric as U.S. authorities, and are more concerned about the safety of their citizens.

Get Involved and Help Save the Daughters of This Nation

Says Fisher:

“In the past 27 years, the stories of death and brain damage that have been reported to the NVIC have never changed. Whether the vaccine victims are 15 months old or 15 years old, the stories are the same: a trusting parent took a bright, healthy child to a doctor for a routine vaccination and the child was never the same again.

The Gardasil vaccine was inappropriately fast tracked and licensed by the FDA and recommended by the CDC with too little attention paid to the reports of brain and immune system dysfunction that developed after vaccination in pre-licensure clinical trials.

That same cavalier attitude toward Gardasil-related deaths and serious health problems, which have been experienced by many girls and young women after licensure, is inexcusable.”

Most Americans have blindly placed their trust in the vaccine makers and in federal health agencies, whose responsibility is to ensure that drugs and vaccines licensed for public use are safe, effective and necessary.

However, over the years it has become very clear that those responsible for protecting your health are not looking out for your best interest and that of your children.

And if they won’t do it, then it is up to you and me to do it.

There are striking parallels between how those operating the mass vaccination system reacted in the 1980′s to persistent reports that the DPT vaccine was harming more children than originally assumed, and the way they are reacting now to persistent reports that Gardasil is more reactive than it was originally assumed.

Assumption of safety is no substitute for proof of safety.

And turning away from human suffering in order to protect the status quo is not the way to run a government that needs the trust and support of the people.

In the 18th century, Queen Marie Antoinette looked down at a starving people pleading for bread to stay alive and said “Let them eat cake.” It is time for everyone in government, industry and medicine to take a different approach to persistent reports of vaccine injuries and deaths or risk metaphorically suffering the same fate that ended the monarchy in France.

In the 21st century, today’s peasants don’t have pitchforks – they have laptops, desktops, smartphones and the internet.”

Cervical Cancer Vaccine May Raise Risk of Guillain-Barre Syndrome

April 30, 2009 (Seattle) — Girls and women who receive the Gardasil vaccine to prevent cervical cancer may be at increased risk of a rare but serious disorder of the nervous system in the first few weeks after getting their shots, researchers report.

Overall, the vaccine does not raise the odds of developing Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS), a disorder of the peripheral nervous system, says Nizar Souayah, MD, of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark.

“But there is clear evidence from our database of an increased incidence of Guillain-Barre syndrome in the first six weeks, especially the first two weeks, after vaccination,” he tells WebMD.

Still, the risk is extremely low: 26 in 10 million in the first two weeks and 30 in 10 million in the first six weeks after vaccination. That compares to 5 in 10 million odds in the general population, Souayah says.

In response to the study, a spokesperson for Merck, which makes Gardasil, notes that the CDC says that “the data do not currently suggest an association between Gardasil and GBS.”

The findings were presented at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Neurology.

Guillain-Barre Syndrome and Vaccination

Guillain-Barre syndrome is a rare nervous system disorder in which the body’s immune system attacks part of the nervous system. This immune system malfunction is usually triggered by an infection, such as with flu virus, or other illness. Occasionally, surgery or vaccinations will trigger the syndrome.

The link between Guillain-Barre syndrome and vaccinations isn’t clear. But researchers say concerns emerged after an association was noticed during the 1976-1977 ” swine flu” season. Since then, “there is always a concern when any vaccine program is introduced,” says Ken Gorson, MD, a neurologist at Tufts University/St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston.

In January 2007, the CDC added Gardasil to its routine childhood immunization schedule. The CDC recommended Gardasil for all girls aged 11-12 and even for girls as young as 9, with catch-up doses for girls and women 13-26 who hadn’t been vaccinated earlier.

HPV is a sexually transmitted virus, with dozens of strains.

As of December 2008, more than 23 million doses of the vaccine were distributed, according to Souayah.

Guillain-Barre Syndrome and Vaccination: Study Details

For the study, researchers examined data from the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), which is managed by the CDC and the FDA.

There were 53 cases of Guillain-Barre reported after HPV vaccination in the United States from 2006 to 2008. In nearly three-fourths of cases, the disorder developed within six weeks after vaccination. More than one-third of cases occurred in the first two weeks.

The fact that so many cases occurred in the first few weeks after vaccination strongly suggests that “some cases are caused by the vaccine,” Souayah says.

Merck spokeswoman Pamela Eisele points to the FDA and CDC statement on the safety of Gardasil: “The FDA and CDC have reviewed the reports of GBS that have been submitted to VAERS. To date, there is no evidence that Gardasil has increased the rate of GBS above that expected in the population.”

Gorson says much more study is needed before any conclusions regarding Gardasil and GBS can be made. Plus, the chance of developing Guillain-Barre syndrome, regardless of whether you’re vaccinated, is extremely low, he says.

“I would discourage women to look for the problem in the first six weeks after vaccination as it will just cause undue anxiety. Guillain-Barre syndrome is not subtle, with weakness, paralysis, balance problems, and numbness and tingling of the limbs developing in a rapidly progressing fashion. It won’t be missed,” Gorson tells WebMD.

This weekend, while I was doing some additional research for our next book, Gardasil — The Hidden Truth, I found a previously undisclosed 1987 filmed interview of Merck’s chief vaccine researcher and the “Father” of modern childhood vaccines, the late Dr Maurice Hilleman. The internationally renowned vaccinologist, was for many years,  Merck’s Vaccine Division Chief.  This stunning footage features medical historian Edward Shorter interviewing Hilleman for WGBH public television (Boston) and Blackwell Science. The interview was cut from The Health Century program due to the potential liability — the tacit admission that Hilleman, through a Merck vaccine program, introduced the HIV virus and AIDS to the modern world.

I found the comments and attitudes of both Dr. Maurice Hilleman and Edward Shorter so over-the-top-callous, I initially suspected the video to be a hoax; however, the authenticity has been verified by the Alliance for Human Research Protection (AHRP).  Additional research verified that the interview was indeed conducted by Dr. Edward Shorter, Professor of the History of Medicine and Professor of Psychiatry, University of Toronto. Dr. Shorter has on numerous occasions since the clip’s release, confirmed the authenticity of the tape and has verified in print that he conducted the interview when preparing a PBS series called “The Health Century.” Doubleday published a companion volume of the same title in 1987. Dr. Shorter deposited the entire tape of the interview, including portions omitted from the book, along with other interviews in the National Library of Medicine. The video clip is now posted on “YouTube.”

This interview was taped with several Merck executives in the room. It is their laughter audible in the tape. Dr. Hilleman explains how in his search for uninfected monkeys; Merck imported green monkeys from Africa. Those monkeys, it turned out, were carrying the HIV virus: “I didn’t know we were importing AIDS.”

In a separate admission, Dr. Hilleman acknowledged that he discovered that the Sabine polio vaccine (manufactured by Merck) was infected with the SV-40 cancer virus. In the process of developing vaccines Merck scientists are shown to exhibit a corporate culture of blatant disregard for public safety as they conducted massive tests exposing millions of unsuspecting people to wild viruses. Dr. Hilleman acknowledged that the cancer infected polio vaccine had been tested in massive field trials in Russia, then in the States.

The issues discussed in this candid interview raise serious doubts about the propaganda the public has been fed about the safety of Merck vaccines. Vaccines that have been promoted as “safe and effective” miraculous cures have been infecting (possibly) millions of people with cancer, leukemia, and AIDS.

The latest Merck ‘Miracle Vaccine” to be foisted on the young women of the world is GARDASIL®. More marketing miracle than reliably tested science, this HPV vaccine has been pushed in to the market place with the help of the Fast Track FDA approval program, a CDC endorsement and the greased palms of untold numbers of venial Federal and State representatives.

Gardasil® is a vaccine that defies justification.

Cervical cancer is a slow developing, highly detectable and ‘curable’ cancer. Widespread access to the PAP test and safe ‘in-office” treatment has almost irradiated cervical cancer as a ‘mortal threat’ in developed countries. Less than 4,000 women die from cervical cancer each year in America… and those precious mothers, daughters, sisters and aunts could have been saved with better access to community public health facilities for PAP screening and needed follow-up treatment.

As for the ‘dreaded HPV threat’ — HPV is amongst the most common viruses found in humans — so common they were once considered a ‘marker’ for sexual activity.  Most researchers agree, a healthy, well-nourished human body, usually resolves HPV over a period of months or years.   Statistically, cervical cancer usually appears in middle-aged women.  Due to the FDA Fast Track approval process, there is no long-term Gardasil® clinical trial data that indicates how many years the vaccine will “protect’ a woman from opportunistic HPV infection.  In its own literature Merck advises women to continue their scheduled PAP tests.

If women still need to rely on PAP tests to “Guard” against cervical cancer — why should we be injected with the unproven vaccine Gardasil®?

How many girls will have to die or suffer injury as a result of the Gardasil® vaccine before our officials move to protect our genetic future?

Our current government Gardasil® policy simply makes no sense.

When the US Treasury is printing money like a failed banana republic, why are we involved in one of the largest transfers of public money into private hands in our history? The cost of Gardasil® will expand far beyond the ridiculously expensive vaccine, to include the health care costs for the young women who are being stricken with numerous, life-changing side-effects. These recently uncovered facts about Merck’s corporate culture of producing unsafe vaccines should prompt a reexamination of the advisability of our Gardasil® vaccine policies. We need to work together to get this vaccine off the market now! Under no circumstances should this vaccine be expanded to include young men.

Regular readers of the Inconvenient Woman Blog already know that I think the HPV vaccine, Gardasil, is a dangerous and unnecessary drug. I believe that Merck has perpetrated a clever, profitable, but deadly hoax on the public. Merck’s proven ability to buy political cover, their award winning marketing campaign and the FDA / CDC’s complete failure to protect the women and girls of this country will allow the largest transfer of public money to private stockholders in history. To the Merck shareholders HPV has come to stand for “Help Pay-For Vioxx!”

Cervical Cancer is the most treatable and survivable cancer women face. For decades regular PAP testing has given women and their physicians ample time to treat and cure the condition. In the United States less than 4,000 women annually die from cervical cancer. The HPV virus is one of the most common and transient of viruses, that in healthy adults resolves it self with out ever metastasizing into some deadly form of cancer. The women, who died, either did not have access, or chose not to avail themselves to regular preventative health care. At the current rate of Adverse Reaction Reporting, it is likely that more girls will have died from the vaccine than women of cervical cancer.

What do rat poison and the HPV vaccine have in common?

The answer is a hazardous chemical known as sodium borate. Savvy readers may wonder what a toxin that is commonly used to kill rats is doing in the ingredient list for the HPV vaccine that is currently being pushed on girls as young as nine and is even being considered for men and boys. Unfortunately, the answer isn’t very comforting, especially for new U.S. residents for whom the HPV injection containing sodium borate is now mandated.

What is Sodium Borate?

Sodium borate, a boric acid salt also known as borax, has many common uses. In addition to its use as a rat poison, it is also used in laundry detergents, cosmetics, enamel glazes, flame retardants, and buffer solutions in chemistry. However, sodium borate also has antifungal properties, which means that its probable reason for being in the vaccine is to act as a preservative.

Sodium Borate Banned as Food Additive

Sodium borate is used as a food additive in some countries, but it is now outlawed in many places. For example, one Australian government recall site notes: “Product is Borax (sodium borate) which is a non permitted food additive and is harmful to health.” So, if it’s “harmful to health,” why is it being added to the HPV vaccine?

No Longer Used in Medical Preparations

The U.S. National Library of Medicine states in an article that boric acid is “no longer commonly used in medical preparations.” It’s a good thing, too, considering that the U.S. National Library of Medicine also reports that this substance used to be used to disinfect and treat wounds and that individuals “who received such treatment over and over again got sick, and some died.” In fact, the U.S. National Library of Medicine provides the number for Poison Control for people exposed to this chemical and notes that treatment for those exposed to it may include gastric lavage (stomach pumping), dialysis, and liquids by mouth or IV.

Sodium Borate Poisoning Symptoms Mimic Reactions to HPV Vaccine

Sadly, the information about sodium borate gets even scarier. Another government website article states that exposure to sodium borate can cause convulsions and other ill health effects. Interestingly enough, young girls who receive the HPV vaccine have reported similar symptoms to those that appear in cases of sodium borate poisoning. This particular government site provides the following warning regarding this chemical: “WARNING! HARMFUL IF SWALLOWED, INHALED OR ABSORBED THROUGH SKIN. CAUSES IRRITATION TO SKIN, EYES AND RESPIRATORY TRACT.” Given this information, is sodium borate really something that should be injected into humans? This is something the reader should carefully consider, along with the previously reported information, before choosing to receive the controversial HPV vaccine.

The Gardasil Marketing campaign is one of egregious deception. With its catchy tune and wholesome images, mothers and Doctors who don’t take the time to do their own research are drawn into a misleading, intricately drawn lie. Merck has come up with a billion dollar fix to a non-existent problem. Cervical cancer is no longer a clear and present danger to modern teenagers with access to normal preventative health care and PAP tests. We are putting a generation of young women at risk and ‘playing dice’ with the reproductive future of our nation.  The FDA, CDC and a raft of either uncaring, or simply corrupt, political hacks are taking Merck’s money and looking the other way, while an unsafe drug and a flawed medical hypothesis are irreparably harming our girls and bankrupting public health care coffers.

While the FDA and CDC refuse to take action, well-meaning mothers are being deceived into thinking the Gardasil HPV vaccination  will protect their daughters from cervical cancer, and some of them are now wondering HOW and WHY their young child died or became suddenly paralyzed.

Another GARDASIL VICTIM’S Story

A month after 13 year old Jenny Tetlock was vaccinated against the HPV virus, she missed the lowest hurdle in gym class. It was the first sign of a degenerative muscle disease that 15 months later left her nearly completely paralyzed.

Her father, Philip Tetlock, a professor at UC-Berkeley, has embarked on an odyssey to find out whether the vaccine, Gardasil, is to blame.

Tetlock is not the only one concerned. The public watchdog group Judicial Watch has been periodically obtaining adverse event reports on Gardasil from the FDA. 10 deaths have been linked to Gardasil since September 2007, and there have been 140 reports so far this year of serious side effects such as miscarriage and Guillain-Barré syndrome.

No matter where you stand within the American, political color-spectrum, Reds and Blues all agree: Michelle Obama is a fiercely protective Momma. To my mind that is a very good thing. However as the Adverse Reactions to the HPV vaccine Garasil continue to mount, I find myself asking WWMOD? What Will Michelle Obama DO?

Like many moms out there she wants what is best for her girls. At 7 and 11years old, Sasha and Malia are in Merck’s TARGETED demographic. Thanks to some well-spent lobby-bucks several States mandated Gardasil vaccinations. The parents of those public school girls might not have the choices available to Mrs. Obama.

Several months ago, President Obama stated that his youngest liked PB&J sandwiches and she has a right to expect a safe sandwich. Sasha, Malia and every other American girl have a right to expect safe vaccines. MERCK is experimenting with the reproductive systems of an entire generation of young woman… so what, if anything with President Obama do to insure the safety of his as well as all the other girls of this nation?

NVIC Petitions White House and Congress to Investigate Gardasil

On February 9, the NVIC launched a petition and issued a national press release calling on President Barack Obama, his Administration and Congress, to investigate the fast track licensure and universal use recommendation of Gardasil in 2006, and the dismissal of more than 10,000 reports of Gardasil-related reactions, injuries and deaths to the Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System as a “coincidence” by federal health officials.

NVIC’s latest Gardasil risk report, which compares the number and severity of adverse events reported to VAERS through November 30, 2008, reveals that death and serious health problems such as stroke, blood clots, cardiac arrest, seizures, fainting, lupus and rechallenge cases are reported three to 30 times more frequently after Gardasil vaccination than after meningococcal (Menactra) vaccination.
Barbara Loe Fisher explains the significance of this fact:

“If the deaths and serious injuries reported after Gardasil were only a “coincidence,” there would be little or no difference between the frequency and severity of vaccine-related adverse events between two vaccines, if the vaccines were equally reactive, and the number of doses were roughly the same.

Gardasil and Menactra vaccines were licensed within a year of each other and recommended by the CDC for universal use in 11-12 year olds.

Although Menactra is given to boys and girls and has already been mandated in many states for high school and college entry, Gardasil is only given to girls and is not yet mandated.

Menatra is given as a one-dose series and, by February 25, 2008, the CDC reported that about 15.5 million doses of Menactra had been distributed in the U.S.. Gardasil is given in a three dose series and the CDC reported that, by July 2008, about 16 million doses had been distributed in the U.S.

This means that about 15 million doses of Menactra were given to about 15 million boys and/or girls and about 16 million doses of Gardasil – if every girl got three doses – were given to about five million girls.

It is individuals – not doses of vaccine – who collapse, convulse, become paralyzed, have heart attacks, develop lupus and other chronic health problems after being vaccinated. The fact that death and serious health problems are reported 3 to 30 times more frequently after Gardasil than after Menactra is highly significant and it is irresponsible for federal health officials and Merck to blow it off as unimportant.”

What Does Merck Have to Say About it?

It’s incomprehensible that the CDC, FDA, and Merck — the makers of Gardasil – cannot see the facts presented in this VAERS analysis, and choose instead to cling to worn-out propaganda slogans and pre-written advertising messages that fly in the face of reason.

In the hours before a resent CBS News broadcast, Merck addressed the differences between adverse events associated with Gardasil and Menactra as follows:

“It’s important to remember that the proven benefit of GARDASIL is that it helps prevent cervical cancer caused by the two virus types responsible for most cases of cervical cancer.

Nothing is more important to Merck than the safety of our products and we carefully monitor the safety of GARDASIL on a routine basis. Experts at the FDA and CDC also continue to review data and, as recently as four months ago, said “GARDASIL continues to be safe and effective, and its benefits continue to outweigh its risks.”

NVIC is not a medical organization and has a long history of raising concerns about vaccines that are in direct conflict with the opinion of leading medical experts. We encourage consumers to get reliable information about the safety of vaccines from www.cdc.gov.”

Spain Already Removed the Vaccine

Spain has, recently withdrawn 75, 000 doses of the HPV vaccine from their market, after two teenagers who received the shots were hospitalized.

Seems  they weren’t as influenced by the drug company’s rhetoric as U.S. authorities, and are more concerned about the safety of their citizens.

Get Involved and Help Save the Daughters of This Nation

Says Fisher:

“In the past 27 years, the stories of death and brain damage that have been reported to the NVIC have never changed. Whether the vaccine victims are 15 months old or 15 years old, the stories are the same: a trusting parent took a bright, healthy child to a doctor for a routine vaccination and the child was never the same again.

The Gardasil vaccine was inappropriately fast tracked and licensed by the FDA and recommended by the CDC with too little attention paid to the reports of brain and immune system dysfunction that developed after vaccination in pre-licensure clinical trials.

That same cavalier attitude toward Gardasil-related deaths and serious health problems, which have been experienced by many girls and young women after licensure, is inexcusable.”

Most Americans have blindly placed their trust in the vaccine makers and in federal health agencies, whose responsibility is to ensure that drugs and vaccines licensed for public use are safe, effective and necessary.

However, over the years it has become very clear that those responsible for protecting your health are not looking out for your best interest and that of your children.

And if they won’t do it, then it is up to you and me to do it.

There are striking parallels between how those operating the mass vaccination system reacted in the 1980′s to persistent reports that the DPT vaccine was harming more children than originally assumed, and the way they are reacting now to persistent reports that Gardasil is more reactive than it was originally assumed.

Assumption of safety is no substitute for proof of safety.

And turning away from human suffering in order to protect the status quo is not the way to run a government that needs the trust and support of the people.

In the 18th century, Queen Marie Antoinette looked down at a starving people pleading for bread to stay alive and said “Let them eat cake.” It is time for everyone in government, industry and medicine to take a different approach to persistent reports of vaccine injuries and deaths or risk metaphorically suffering the same fate that ended the monarchy in France.

In the 21st century, today’s peasants don’t have pitchforks – they have laptops, desktops, smartphones and the internet.”

I strongly urge you to join in petitioning our new U.S. administration and Congress to take a close, hard look at the HPV vaccine, to end the needless suffering of tens of thousands of young, bright, innocent girls.

Agency also approved second DNA test for wider range of HPV types

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration yesterday approved the first DNA test that identifies the two types of human papillomavirus (HPV) that cause the majority of cervical cancers among women in the United States.

The test, called Cervista HPV 16/18, detects the DNA sequences for HPV type 16 and HPV type 18 in cervical cells. Differentiating these HPV types gives health care professionals more information on a patient’s risk of subsequently developing cervical cancer.

A positive Cervista 16/18 test result indicates whether HPV type 16, 18 or both types are present in the cervical sample.

The FDA also approved yesterday the Cervista HPV HR test, which is the second DNA test that detects essentially all of the high-risk HPV types in cervical cell samples. The Cervista HPV HR test uses a method similar to the Cervista HPV 16/18 test to detect the DNA sequences of these HPV types.

In women age 30 and older or women with borderline cytology, the Cervista HPV 16/18 test can be used together with cytology and the Cervista HPV HR test to assess risk of cervical disease.

“Results from these two tests, when considered with a physician’s assessment of the patient’s history, other risk factors, and professional guidelines, can help physicians better determine risk and could lead to better patient management,” said Daniel G. Schultz, M.D., director of the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health.

HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that more than 6 million Americans become infected with genital HPV each year and that more than half of all sexually active women and men become infected at some time in their lives.

For most women, the body’s own defense system clears the virus and infected women do not develop related health problems. However, some HPV types can cause cell abnormalities on the lining of the cervix that later can become malignant.

While there are many different types of HPV, types 16 and 18 cause about 70 percent of all cervical cancers.

Gardasil WARNING! – CNN Report 8.11.08

An official from conservative watchdog group, Judicial Watch, says parents concerns about the vaccine is valid. “Without long-term studies and without a safety test essentially the public is being used as a large scale public health test.”

Dr John Iskanser, Acting Immunization Safety Director CDC says, it is working on a study right now (8.11.08)  to see if there is a pattern that links to Gardasil to this pattern of adverse effects… ahh shouldn’t we test these vaccines BEFORE a large scale roll out? Just asking…
